The Marriage Course

WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?
The Marriage Course is run over two weekends and is focussed on enriching and growing established marriages. Over the two weekends Jim and Heather Johnston, will help us to explore our marriages and get deeper insight into where our relationships are and how they can grow. It is a wonderful opportunity to set aside time for intimacy and sharing with our spouse.

Sergio and Elisabeth were married by Jim, 30 years ago, and they have found his input through the years, invaluable to their growth. They will be attending the course and highly recommend it.
Jim Johnson gives a synopsis below of what you can expect.

"The course will focus on issues raised by the participants. These will probably include -
a. external pressures such as in-laws, finance etc.
b. Communication
c. Identifying and managing areas of conflict
d. Identifying and working with destructive patterns

There will be times of input, discussion and 'exercises' to practice the skills given. There will also be time for the couples 'to do their own thing'.

You ask about the couples who are likely to derive most from the course. While it is difficult to generalise, our experience has been that the newly weds tend to just listen, as they feel insecure and have not yet developed or identified their patterns. However, even just listening can be helpful to them. Those from seven years onward are usually more ready to talk. It can be unhelpful for a couple whose marriage is in deep trouble to attend, because they can go away very hopeful, feeling that their problems are over, only to descend into despair when the hit difficulties. Such couples need ongoing help to back up any progress made."

WHEN
The dates of the course are 18-19 October and 25-26 October.The course will run on the Sat and Sun of both weekends.
It will start at 9am and end at 4pm.

THE LOGISTICS
The course will be held at Sans Pareil in Hout Bay.
A light lunch will be served.
If there are a number of couples with young children a babysitter will be arranged to be at Sans Pareil and take care of the children. If this service would be useful to you please let us know

The cost of the course will be R1200 per couple.
